The Malecon

To get back to the north beach, we began by walking along a pathway overlooking the water.

Someone was feeling whimsical when they hung decorations from pieces of driftwood.
A broken skull is still beautiful.
This side of the island is much more rugged, but there are still small beaches tucked between the rocks.
People can still get into the water.
We stopped for a beer at a beautiful little B&B called Villa La Bella.

Here we met a couple who offered invited us to lunch and offered us lunch and a ride home. Lunch was at Mango Cafe and it was wonderful. I had fish tacos. The ride was back to our hotel in the back of a golf cart.

Guadalapana Cemetery

A taxi took us down to the centre of the island to a newer municipal Cemetery. Here the graves were more widely spaced.

This one was reminiscent of a wedding cake.
At the top of a set of stairs, a palapa covered a little open air church.

From here you could look down upon the sea.

A small child is given toys and a bottle.

A little grave sat in the midst of all the big ones.

This was the only one we saw with a waterfall.

Tropical Fish

We have been busy snorkelling in the lagoon in front of our hotel. We do not have an underwater camera, so I had to grab a few pics online just to give a sense of what we are seeing.

Noches Magicas

There is a carnaval coming this weekend, but tonight provided a bit of a warm up. There was dancing and singing on a stage at City Hall.

The only problem was that the mayor took centre stage. He spoke for a minute or so and then he started singing. He really couldn't sing but he went on for three or four songs. He had to be forced off the stage.

The men did did something between tap dancing and stomping.
Local children danced and tumbled.

Centro Cemetery

Centro is the name of the area around North Beach. It is very busy and very crowded, but right in the middle is a little oasis completely surrounded by walls.

The graves are crowded closely together.
Little glass rooms are to hold gifts for the dead.
Most are well kept, with flowers and decorations. Very few actually have astro turf.
This one had steps up to the top.
Many are very colourful.

Centro

We have been here for a while now, wandering around the town at least once every day. Shops are everywhere. The food at the restaurants is almost always fantastic.

This is a street for pedestrians only.
Deb found a friend.
A Statue on the Main Street
Many Quaint Little Hotels
It is the wrong season to actually go out and see the whale sharks.

Many buildings have murals.

North Beach

Deb is laying around getting better, so I am off for a walk with my camera. This is an amazing beach, and apparently its only really crowded on the weekend.

This little restaurant and bar is right across the road.

This is a continuation of our lagoon, with open water off in the distance.

For a minimal fee, you can rent a palapa at the water's edge.

The sand goes on forever.

Can you tell the difference? Now there is open water to our right.

I honestly couldn't get this shot without the girl in the foreground.

There are loungers and platforms where you can stop for a beer.

Some little boats park along the shore.

The groins are there to hold the sand in place. You can just walk around them.

Great places to relax. (Nothing is free, but also nothing is expensive)

Same bar as in the first shot

A house of stone built on stone at the end of the lagoon.

In the lagoon right in front of us, you can walk to the verge of the crashing waves. Tropical fish swim in schools around your legs.
