Farewell to Barb & Jude

On the day Judy and Barb left, two things of note happened:

First, the weather changed. The sun came out and the temperature rose. It was a beautiful day.

Barb got to enjoy some sunshine on the ferry.

Second, the full moon that night was remarkable. It was called a blue blood moon. It was a blue moon because it was the second full moon of the month. It was a blood moon because it was bright red as came over the horizon.

This was also the closest pass that the moon has made to the earth in over a hundred years, so it was huge.

Jude got a shot of the moon from her plane.

When the moon rose, we were on our patio to watch. It was bright red and it was huge, so we decided to go to the roof the get some shots.

Although the sky was mostly clear, there was one stubborn cloud that sat directly above the moon. by the time we got upstairs, the moon was hiding.

After a while, it did reappear, but it wasn't red anymore.

I didn't have a tripod, so I braced the camera against a wall. The results aren't perfect, but they'll have to do.

Our 47th

When our real anniversary did come around, we went out for dinner at the Sunset Grill, which is one of the nicer, more romantic restaurants on the island.

The sunset was quite wonderful, even though there was a cloud to interfere.

Because the fishermen had not been out to sea for some time, we had to eat frozen fish. My grouper was wonderful, but Deb's snapper was rather chewy. The owner offered her another dish and when she said no, he brought her a shot of Bailey's.

We will return to this restaurant because it really is very nice. We also expect that we will be treated like royalty when we return.

Almost Our Anniversary

A few days before our anniversary, we wandered the beach for an afternoon of sun and sea and beer and food. Something romantic was going on.

We managed to get in on some of the action.

At one of the Beach Clubs, they were setting up for a wedding,
so we had to get into the shot.

A beer and lunch went down well at Fenix.

On the dock, someone's life was changing. They earned a round of applause.

The sunset worked out quite nicely.

Every time someone asked, we told them that we would be celebrating our 48th anniversary. Near the end of the day we recalculated and realized it would only be our 47th.

Getting Around

The weather was a bit of a disappointment. It rained at least once most days, but we did see sunny breaks. The temperatures were lower than expected. Winds howled across the lagoon to our resort. Waves pounded the reef so the fishing boats were unable to get out of the harbour.

But there were pleasant breaks almost every day. We managed to get some reading done, but we also managed to get out and around. Dining at the restaurants was hit and miss. There was a shortage of fresh fish.

If Judy takes the picture, she doesn't get in the picture.

The water was great, but with the wind howling,
I did sometimes keep my shirt on.

Back on Isla

We are back on Isla Mujeres. In fact, we have been here for a long time now, but I have not been taking many pictures, nor have I been writing on this blog, so now I have to do a little catching up.

We arrived at Hotel Villa Kiin on January 15th and had two days on our own before Judy and Barb showed up. Judy was the one who started taking pictures

We tried the included "continental breakfast" at Buho's only once. Yuck!

The fishing boats are docked because of rough seas. No Fish!

We wandered over to the docks.

We stopped at Dolphin Discovery just long enough to get a picture.

Renting a golf cart for the day is quite expensive.
