One whole day was for travel. First we drove in the Land Cruiser from Kapama to the airport. Then we flew to Johannesburg and booked into the City Lodge in the airport. In the morning we flew to Victoria Falls and climbed to a bus to take us to the Victoria Falls Hotel. It was all just a pause in the action.
The adventure began anew when we arrived at the airport. It turns out that this is a very old and very opulent hotel. Here we are not allowed to do anything for ourselves. Our room is very large and very luxurious. A four poster bed is covered with mosquito netting. Our sitting area has a beautiful divan with a wood inlaid coffee table. The desk has stainless steel lags with the top and sides covered with dark brown letter. The chair beside the desk is covered with a leopard print. In the bath is a large modern shower and a steel four legged tub. The overall impression is from a bygone victorian era, but all of the conveniences are modern and very pristine.
When we looked out the window we found warthogs grazing on the lawn.
On the way to dinner we slowed to absorb the beauty and history of a beautiful old building.
At dinner in the “Jungle Junction” restaurant, we stuffed ourselves from an awesome buffet as we enjoyed the entertainment. Singers and drummers in traditional garb provided the music as dancers came and went perfuming different dances in numerous fantastic costumes. It was a wonderful evening.
