Getting to Observatory Lodge

Today was a wonderful day, so much so that it will probably take three or four entries to write about it. When it was over, there were about 250 pictures to load onto my computer and edit.

Two alarms woke us up at six a.m. and were eating breakfast by seven. The two-toed sloth was busy overhead and he quickly drew a crowd of people with cameras. Of course I had to join the crowd.

Today he was on the very end of one of the tallest branches. It looked dangerous.

One more shot before heading off
The volcano was peaking through the clouds when we headed onto a perfectly good road to get to Observatory Lodge. Unfortunately, we soon had to turn off of this road onto one of the worst I have seen. For most of the ten kilometres or so, we were travelling at a crawl, being ever so cautious with a rental car. We only stopped a few times for pictures because we were beginning to think we might be late for the hike at 8:30.
