Truro & The Tidal Bore

Now we have moved on to Truro, staying at the Tulip and Thistle B & B. I is a beautiful big old home which is completely modernized.  The host Larry welcomed us into his home. He showed us around, gave us his recommendations for dinner restaurants, then took our breakfast orders.

In the morning there were four couples seated around a large dining room table. There was coffee, toast, preserves and a selection of pastries. Each person was presented with their individual order for breakfast. Deb had the classic bacon and eggs but I opted for French toast stuffed with cream cheese and smothered with wild blueberries.

We wandered around Truro for a little while and waited patiently for the tidal bore.

Here is the river before the tide comes in.

A large sandbar spans about 3/4 of the width.

Look carefully and you can see a small wave coming up the river.
It is getting closer.
The birds had to hop out of the way.

Here it is.

There it goes.

The water is now flowing steadily upstream.

The sandbar is disappearing

Within twenty minutes the water spans the width of the river, having risen perhaps three feet.
