Barracas del Cobre

Under clear blue skies in air that was slightly warmer, we finally had the opportunity to travel by cable car down into the canyon.

The zipline is the longest in the world (over 2 1/2 km).

If you zip down, your trip will involve several hanging bridges.

From the tram you get the long view of Posada Barracas.

Natives live deep in the canyon, including one community of over 200 people.

From time to time more zip liners fly by.

We can look back to where we came from.

Donkeys on a ridge perhaps help the zip liners to the cable car.

Of course Deb is in awe.

The river which created all the damage lies at the bottom.

Of course there are locals who wish to sell us things.

We are shivering. He wears sandals.

Another cable car passes by.

Our guide (look closely) is gently rocking
back and forth on "Balancing Rock".
Deb did some reading and discovered that this canyon is slated for much more development. Another cable car is to be added and several more zip lines. At least four luxury hotels are to be built along the rim. A large amusement park is planned with roller coasters which dip over the edge. Apparently, many of the locals are in favour because of the money and jobs which will be created. A few tribes, however, are protesting.

Deb and I are glad that we have come here now, before the crowds.
