On our food tour of Polanco, our guide Nicky told us of a weekly folk dance presentation in the Palace of Fine Arts (The opera). We took the trip into town and managed to get good seats. It was well worth the trip. The building is spectacular and the show was amazing. Dances and music were presented from many different regions of Mexico. There were mariachi bands, hat dances, rope dances and many others. The costumes changed frequently and all were beautiful. In my view, the highlight was a deer dance from northern Mexico. The dancer became a deer and ranged beautifully and freely around the stage until he was hunted and killed by two native bowmen.
Photography was allowed during the show, but unfortunately the light was low. It was necessary to dial up the film speed, so the pictures are quite grainy.
